Cheers for Teachers!
Even before the year started, Dr. Marc Bergin, BCPS Superintendent, expressed to our Board a desire to do more to recognize teachers. To quickly answer this need, the Bedford Area Educational Foundation created the Cheers for Teachers campaign, just for 2021-2022.
We have gathered support from local individuals and businesses in order to provide each principal in Bedford County with gift cards ($25 each) to recognize teachers going above and beyond. Thanks to the generosity of our community, we’ve already sent 5 cards to every school and we’re working to gather more.
Businesses that have already donated to Cheers for Teachers include: Bald Guy & Associates Realtors, Wal-Mart, Aldi, Bower Center for the Arts, Simply Vanilla, Board & Brush of Forest and Town Kitchen & Provisions. Please tell them “thank you”!
We know it’s been a challenging couple of years for our schools, as we continue to navigate a global pandemic. Let’s join together to tell our teachers that we see their hard work and appreciate their care for our children. Any donations designated as Cheers for Teachers will go toward giving principals gift cards to recognize teachers this school year.

How School Nurses are Making Hand-Washing Fun!
BCPS Supervisor of Physical and Mental Health Patricia Knox requested a grant for hand-washing education before we knew how COVID would affect our lives.
After assessing the best tools to use to avoid shared items, Ms. Knox used the grant money to buy LED Flashlights, Glow Germ Lotion and Glow Germ Gel for classroom instruction.
"The timing of this request was really essential to our needs for dealing with COVID. It has been a huge success and greatly appreciated," she said.
